Make a statement with local and sustainably sourced wood
At Lucky Nelson's, we offer portable sawmill services to help you turn your logs into beautiful live edge slabs or dimensional lumber. Our Woodmizer LT40 wide bandsaw is fully hydraulic and can cut up to 34" wide and 20' long. We charge by the hour, but our saw is efficient and can cut faster than the lumber or slabs can be taken off the mill. Let us help you transform your logs into usable lumber or slabs for your next project. We work with clients in Burlington and Camden Counties, and surrounding areas. Custom Woodwork FAQs
What is your process for custom woodwork?
Our process begins with an initial consultation, during which we discuss your vision, style preferences, and functional needs for the piece. We then guide you through the design, select the best materials, and provide a detailed quote. Once confirmed, we handle every step in-house, from sourcing the wood to crafting and finishing, ensuring high-quality standards at every stage.
Do you offer consultation and design services?
Yes, we offer personalized consultations to help you bring your ideas to life. We explore various wood types, finishes, and styles during the design process, providing expert advice to help refine your concept. Our goal is to create a piece that perfectly complements your space and taste.
Is a deposit required for custom furniture orders?
Yes, we require a deposit to begin work on custom orders. This secures your spot in our schedule and allows us to source and prepare materials specifically for your piece.
The deposit amount varies based on the project and will be outlined in your initial quote.
What types of wood do you use for furniture?
We primarily use locally sourced hardwoods and live edge slabs, carefully selected for their beauty, durability, and sustainability. Our commitment to sourcing local materials helps support sustainable forestry practices and reduces the carbon footprint associated with transportation.
Do you do everything in-house?
Yes, typically from picking up the logs from a local homeowner or tree service. Then, the milling of the log(s), the lengthy drying process, and finally, the working and crafting of the wood, and the final finish, every step is handled in-house by our team. By overseeing the entire process, we maintain complete control over quality and craftsmanship. This approach allows us to produce furniture with exceptional grain patterns, durability, and finish.
How does controlling the entire process benefit the customer?
Handling every step in-house means we can ensure that each piece meets our high standards of quality and sustainability. By managing the sourcing, milling, drying, and finishing ourselves, we’re able to highlight the wood’s natural beauty, creating furniture with unique grain characteristics that simply can’t be replicated in mass production.
How are you committed to sustainable practices?
We believe in responsible craftsmanship, so we partner with local tree services to repurpose wood that would otherwise go to waste. This reduces waste and allows us to preserve the natural beauty of local trees, turning them into one-of-a-kind furniture. Our practices emphasize eco-friendly methods and a dedication to preserving the environment.
What makes your furniture unique?
Each piece is crafted with great care from sustainably sourced local hardwoods, allowing us to achieve the most beautiful, one-of-a-kind grain characteristics. Our process emphasizes quality and customization, so you’ll receive a piece that is both a functional item and a work of art, rich with the history of the tree it came from.
What makes live edge wood unique, and why do you use it?
Live-edge wood showcases the natural contours and beauty of the tree, preserving its original shape and grain patterns. Each live-edge piece is truly one-of-a-kind, with unique textures and organic shapes that highlight the tree’s history. By working with locally sourced wood, we enhance each piece’s beauty and honor the tree’s journey, bringing a touch of nature and sustainability to your space.
Are your pieces built to last?
Absolutely. We create heirloom-quality furniture using solid hardwoods chosen for their durability and timeless beauty. Each piece is crafted to withstand everyday use while retaining its elegance, making it a long-lasting investment that can be passed down through generations. By carefully selecting materials and applying expert craftsmanship, we ensure that each piece becomes a cherished item, bringing warmth and character to your home for years to come.
